Need running advice

Okay - so I've completed week 1 (day 3) of the C25K program. Day 3 should have been easier but I had to deal with the cold wet weather. My ears really began to hurt, especially the earbuds I used were causing pain. Any suggestions on either ear covers or should I get new ear buds? What do people wear when they run in the cold/wet weather? I wore sweats and a sweatshirt. The temp was in the 40s. Ironically, my loop has one annoying long incline which isn't really steep, it's just long and wouldn't you know every running session timed to be at that incline. So while my legs didn't hurt as much as they did on the 2 previous runs, they didn't cooperate as well. I think it was the cold weather - and running into the wind really stinks also. Plus there were wet leaves, pine needles and acorns. I was very nervous and afraid of injuring myself. So, on Thursday, my employer said he would provide me with a YMCA membership, so I'll be able to run the inside track. I'm excited and hope having a flat safe surface will keep me motivated - and the free nursery while I run will be nice. Hopefully, he'll get that set up next week.

  1. I use earbuds for running, some times they hurt more than others and I am not sure why... Running in the cooler temps, I wear layers...
I have my workout pants, I have some that are a bit thicker than others.. so I wear them, usually a running/workout with wickening(sp it is late) and a workout jacket. I never take off the jacket but adjust the amount that the zipper is open for keeping cool enough or warm enough. I also have some long sleeve shirts that I bought at the store for outdoor activities..... As it get really cooler out, I think ear band, and gloves will be a necessity!!!
    Hope this helps..

  2. David and the kids gave me some special covers that go on my ear buds for Christmas last year. I wish I knew what they are called, but the guy at the store told David that they were very comfortable, and they are. They are grey, and they snap on over the other bud. They are soft and flexible. Go to some place like best buy or radio shack and see what they got. I think David got them at radio shack.

As far as the incline, you don't have to go straight around the block. You can change directions at anytime. Our route is not long enough, so we turn and run or walk in the other diretion, usually choosing according to the upcoming running or walking. (I am sure that made perfect sense).

And as far as the cold - You will be at the Y very soon! I am so jealous!
