Labor Day Weekend Plan

I've been whining about my head cold which really should just be called, a snotty nose cold for a week now. Two of my poor kids have it just as bad. We've already gone through 2 boxes of tissues! But since we were on the mend, we haven't had any medicine since Monday night. It is good to not have that zombie feeling anymore. I admit that while sick, I did eat garbage, delicious sweet garbage like donuts, and icecream - which we all know is great for sore throats and big butts. So yesterday's weigh-in was really dismal. I've been hovering around 195 all summer and yesterday it jumped up to 198 in the morning and 199 in the evening. I remember how happy I was to get out of the 200's and be in Onederland and I almost blew it. I'm sure the medicine has helped contribute with water retention but I know it was really me. I need to drink lots of water, which I've gotten out of the habit of doing. Besides being a long winded rambler, I am also a chronic scale addict. Today's (Wednesday) weigh-in had a slight loss, which I hope is some of that water retention. 196.7.

In two days, unless we are really really sick, we are supposed to go camping. Camping = smores. I'm not too worried about the actual meals because they will be our usual food and I can control those portions. Our snacks will be fruits and veggies. It is the smores that will kill my will power. So, for my Labor Day Weekend Plan, I'm going to plan in the smores. I will allow myself 1/2 a smore each night (which is half of the long graham cracker) so maybe that should equal a full smore if we count the square as the smore. I will stop at that one smore and not go crazy eating roasted marshmellows too.

Our meals will be all homemade, no processed foods. I know at least one night, probably 2 we will have venison cooked on the grill. I plan on walks with my kids around the campgrounds. Plus chasing a 2 year old all around should be exercise enough.

  1. I forgot you were going camping! I hope the weather will be great. Here's a tip for around the campfire. Wait until the kids are tired of roasting marshmellows and things are wrapping up. Then have your s'more. It will be worth the wait, and you can keep telling yourself, "no, I don't want a plain marshmellow; I want a s'more". Then when you can have that s'more, and then no-more. You won't be tempted to have another because everyone will be done and you will be busy cleaning sticky faces.

  2. oh, and I don't think 198 to 196.7 is a slight loss! I had a slight gain. 191.2 to 191.7. I think I am reacting to working out again, I guess. I just keep reminding myself that this weeks work will pay off, probably next week with some great losses.

  4. I haven't had a s'more in ages! Sounds like you'll have no problem keeping the activity up so don't worry about treating yourself a little bit.

  6. I agree w/ Nancy if you leave yours til the end you wont be as tempted to continue if everyone else is done. It is slow, enjoy & then stop.
Also agree w/ Mommy2Joe...you see, I have lost what I have lost thus far with the occassional indulgent Reese's Smore! :) We have a toaster oven here at work and others on various diets and I counted the calories/points etc and made them ate them, sat w/ our eyes closed...then moved on! You must treat yourself occassionally or you will go of track just plan for it and get right back on. Have fun camping! I'm suppose to go with a fellow GAG girl in Oct and we too have a cruise planned . . . ours is in Feb 2010. We CAN do this!

  9. Honestly, if you eat healthy most of your meals, a small smore won't hurt you. Just keep portions in mind.

Have fun spending the time with your family and camping! I love camping :)
